100th founding anniversary of Dhaka University, Oxford, East. The path of the university started on July 1, 1921. Dhaka University has been established by overcoming many obstacles. The history of opposition to the establishment of Dhaka University shows that many names have come up in opposition.
Some Muslims in West Bengal who thought that if the university was established in Dhaka, the Muslims of West Bengal would not benefit. The Muslims of East Bengal will benefit. So it is beneficial for them to have a university in West Bengal, not in Dhaka. Besides, some Muslims in East Bengal who thought that only one out of 10,000 Muslims in East Bengal could pass the school level. At the college level, their number of students is very low. If it is a university, the number of Muslim students there will be very low. If there is a primary and secondary school in East Bengal, the rate of education among Muslims will increase by studying there. That is needed first and if the university is established, then the government budget allocated for Muslims will be spent on the university itself. There will be no new primary or secondary school. Those that are, will also be closed due to lack of money. They didn't want it to be a university.
It is known that when Lord Hardinge, the Viceroy of India, returned to Calcutta after his visit to Dhaka in 1912, on 12 February 1912, Dr. A delegation led by Rashbehari Ghosh met him and handed over a memorandum opposing the establishment of a university in Dhaka. At that time Lord Hardinge wanted to know from Ashutosh Mukherjee, at what cost, in return for which he would refrain from opposing the establishment of Dhaka University? Finally, Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee refrained from opposing the establishment of Dhaka University in exchange for the creation of four new professorships for Calcutta University.
